EcoWeb Lab is committed towards sustainable future through waste management of agricultural/organic waste and reduction of plastic waste/or Styrofoam by application of biotechnological techniques. Our research is to prevent land, water and air pollution through macro and micro plastic invasion by involving microbial consortia with biowaste to build product material which are biodegradable, ecofriendly and best alternative to the existing polymer based synthetic material which are mainly fossil based byproducts.
The technology here involves production of biodegradable packaging materials out of organic wastes comprising of agro waste in combination with fungal mycelia, which is the mass of branched, tubular filaments (hyphae) of fungi. India generates about 350 million tons of agricultural waste every year which are mostly released to the environment without proper disposal procedure that may cause environmental pollution and harmful effect on human and animal health. Often these wastes are disposed by burning, dumping or unplanned land filling leading to huge amount of toxic gas emission as well as contamination of soil and water because of high residue of toxic chemicals. The petroleum-based products are used extensively in packaging purposes by all kinds of industries but create havoc to the environment being nonbiodegradable, so the proposed project proposal is to formulate a biomaterial which is 100% biodegradable, efficient and safe to the environment
